The Brief

Create a web presense for the Gilman Saddle Club.

Must haves:

  • Information on: events, membership, club meetings, becoming a sponsorship, and who to contact
  • Content management system
  • Search engine optimization
  • responsive design

The Solution

Creating the website for the Gilman Saddle Club was a ground-up web project that began with registering the domain. The second step was researching and installing a content management system that would be easy to use and require little HTML and CSS training. I decided to go with WordPress. WordPress still includes many of the features that made it excel as a blogging platform. These same features, combined with a few additions, were easily adapted to fit the needs of a growing local riding club.

The layout for the website was designed with an emphasis on UX/UI design. It was important for the site to be easy for visitors to find the information they were after, so clear navigation and a search feature was a must. Even in mobile view, these two items appear at the top. The slide show also helps direct visitors using captions and visual aids. Going into summer, event information and directions to the clubs show grounds would also be a priority. An events list and Google Map are featured prominently in the footer. In addition, each event page and the Contact page includes a link to open the address into the Google Maps app.
